Patient Care Services
Kindred Hospitals use a multidisciplinary team approach to care that helps our patients return to the highest quality of life possible. Our areas of patient care services include:
Behavioral Health
Our Behavioral Health specialists are specially trained to treat emotional or behavioral problems triggered by trauma or stress.
Brain Injury
Brain injuries can be as sudden as they are devastating. Our interdisciplinary approach to caring for patients with brain injuries includes all aspects of rehabilitation and recovery.
Dialysis
Our interdisciplinary team of dialysis specialists includes physicians, nurses, technicians and dietitians who strive to help you meet the challenges of dialysis with comfort and dignity, and continue to live a full, active life.
Direct Admission
For your convenience, our hospital accepts direct admissions from an Extended Care Facility, Skilled Nursing Center and Emergency Departments.
Endoscopy
An endoscope is a flexible, lighted tube that, when inserted into the digestive system, transmits images of the inside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, allowing the physician to carefully examine the lining of these organs. Our surgical team works to make you as comfortable as possible before, during and after the procedure.
Pain Management
We feature a variety of treatments designed to ease chronic pain conditions that may result from an accident, infection or sprain. We have physicians with a specialty in pain management on our medical staff.
Physicians
Your clinical treatment is the chief responsibility of your physician. As a member of the medical staff, your physician makes the necessary arrangements for laboratory services, X-rays, medications, special diets and any other treatment or service. KHSD medical services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of physician specialists in critical care, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, infectious disease, internal medicine and family practice. Practice guidelines are regularly implemented to optimize quality and cost effectiveness.
Nursing
Nursing services are provided around the clock to meet each patient’s unique needs. Through the Department of Nursing, care plans are created in conjunction with physicians, therapists and specialists in other disciplines. Our ICU nurses have advanced training through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Respiratory Therapists
Under the direction of the medical staff, our team of respiratory therapists evaluates, treats and manages patients with cardiopulmonary problems. They also provide preventive care.
Radiology
Using advanced digital equipment, the radiology staff performs a variety of X-rays and diagnostic services, including onsite CAT scans, that play an important role in diagnosing many illnesses.
Surgical Services
Surgical services are available for patients around the clock. If necessary, for some specialty procedures, patients may be transferred to another facility.
Laboratory
The KHSD laboratory is accredited by CLIA and The Joint Commission. The laboratory staff, under the direction of a physician, is responsible for conducting any tests that are ordered. Our advanced equipment performs tests accurately and quickly, with results available stat or on a routine basis.
Pharmacy
An integral part of the patient care team is our staff of licensed pharmacists. They prepare medications and provide special dietary supplements necessary for proper nutrition.
Food Services and Nutrition Support
The goal of our dietitian is to strive to meet your nutritional needs and prepare diets as ordered by your physician. The dietitian also performs periodic nutritional assessments and monitors your nutrition plan. Please make the dietitian aware of your food preferences and any food allergies you may have.
Physical Therapy
Our physical therapists are an integral part of your rehabilitation process. Under the direction of your physician, they evaluate, treat and provide rehabilitation for muscular, skeletal, neurological and circulatory diseases.
Occupational Therapy
The work of the occupational therapist helps promote independence in daily living skills such as feeding, bathing, dressing and grooming. The goal we strive toward is to increase your strength, endurance and coordination.
Speech Therapy
When required, a licensed speech and language pathologist provides therapy to improve your speaking and swallowing skills as much as possible. The KHSD speech department specializes in the use of the Passy-Muir speaking valve, which often enables ventilator patients to speak while remaining on the ventilator.
Social Services
A wide range of social services – including counseling, discharge planning, referrals to community agencies and securing medical equipment for home use – is provided. Family members are also invited to take part in support groups offered on a weekly basis.
Chaplain Services
There are chaplains who visit daily to assist you and your family with any needs or concerns. Your minister is also welcome to visit at any time.
